7 month project review
After 7 months of starting my project, I feel it is now time for a review of the progress of my project.
From my original idea of researching about sustainability in schools I have found that it is more accurate to research sustainability in British secondary schools. From this, I have found government advice documents published by the department for education. Also, from this I have found many articles from private organisations and charities as well as multiple case studies.
I have also considered many forms of primary research. In the past I have planned to carry out an interview with the school business manager as well as emailing all the other schools in our school trust to enquire about the display energy certificates and date of construction. After getting only 3 replied out of 9, I decided to email again and ask for the year of construction as I was previously directed to the governments online DEC finder.
At the moment, after coming back from Easter half term, I only received 1 more response. This could be down to most schools in the trust being located in the county of Nottinghamshire, who happened to be on half term 1 week earlier than us, being located in Derbyshire. After not receiving any more responses, I have decided not to contact the schools again and just analyse the data I have, making a comparison between the DEC score and the year of construction.
Also looking forward, I am near to contacting the business manager to organise the meeting between him and I.
I am also looking at carrying out internal fieldwork to see how many lights are left on at lunch over a week, however I do not know if this is possible yet.
Overall, I believe that my project is off to a good start with my research. I believe that I could improve my performance by working more on my project outside of timetabled hours as well as continuing to summarise the secondary resources I have retrieved.
